Great Plains Food Bank receives $12,000 donation

American Family Insurance has donated $12,000 to the Great Plains Food Bank to help in their fight to end hunger throughout North Dakota and western Minnesota. The grant is enough to provide 36,000 meals to help feed hungry children, seniors and families in the region.

This is the first time American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation has awarded this grant to the Great Plains Food Bank. The Great Plains Food Bank was initially approached by Mike Sojka from the Brent Berg Agency of American Family Insurance in Moorhead, Minn. The donation will significantly enhance the Great Plains Food Bank’s food recovery and distribution efforts that supply 11.6 million meals to more than 97,000 individuals annually.

We are honored to play a small part in help to provide meals for the Red River Valley,” said Berg.

“We are extremely grateful to the American Family Dreams Foundation for this generous grant to assist in our food recovery and distribution efforts,” Great Plains Food Bank CEO Steve Sellent said. “Throughout the state of North Dakota, one in nine individuals struggle with food insecurity and this grant will allow us to provide even more nutritious food to ensure they have the nourishment they need to stay healthy. We thank the foundation for their important commitment and support in the fight to end hunger.”
