Knights of Columbus hosts local free throw championship

Four girls and four boys were named local champions of the 2019 New Rockford Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship. Knights of Columbus Local Council #2477 in New Rockford sponsored the competition at the New Rockford-Sheyenne High School Gymnasium on Sun. Jan. 13.

All youngsters ages 9 to 14 were eligible to participate. There were also second and third place awards given out.

Each contestant was allowed 15 free throw attempts in the contest. Ties were settled by successive rounds of five free throws per contestant until a winner emerged.

The winners in each division were as follows: Emmie Belquist and Ayden Gable, nine-year-old girls and boys; Alivia Yri and Skye Kramlich, 10-year-old girls and boys; Ava Peterson and Kendrick Hopfauf, 11-year-old girls and boys; and Kaiya O'Connor and Porter Granger, 12-year-old girls and boys.

All winners will advance to the District Shoot Off which will be held in Carrington on Feb. 3, starting at 3 p.m.

There were 27 participants in all. Organizer Harry Pieterick was assisted by Ed O'Connor, Larry Arendt and Mandy Fandrich.
