Local woman's legacy on display in North Dakota Heritage Center memorial kiosk

The late DeVon Allmaras, of New Rockford, is one of 6,000 North Dakotans to be memorialized in a statewide memorial project undertaken by the State Historical Society of North Dakota.

Allmaras passed away on June 5, 2018, after an ongoing battle with cancer. Her absence continues to be felt throughout the community as she was diligently involved in many organizational boards and local government committees. Allmaras’ obituary and photograph have since been archived as part of the Heritage Family memorial program and are now available to view on the Hall of Honors Electronic Kiosk at the North Dakota Heritage Center in Bismarck.

The Hall of Honors Electronic Kiosk is a state-of-the-art addition to the center that recognizes supporters and donors, honors fallen Peace Officers, and preserves the memory of thousands of North Dakotans. The 32-inch touch screen offers visitors the opportunity to navigate between screens to view the history of the Heritage Center expansion project and its donors and scan through the Family and Funeral Home Memorials and Peace Officer Memorials.

The North Dakota Heritage Family and Funeral Home Memorials program presents life stories of deceased North Dakotans, permanently displaying them for generations to come. The process of memorialization in the Hall of Honor begins as records come in to the State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation, where staff and volunteers format, edit and archive each memorial. The memorials are then sent to family for approval before being placed into the kiosk. The database for the kiosk is constantly updated as new memorials and donor information are received.

Sponsors of the kiosk project are the North Dakota Peace Officers Association and Foundation, the North Dakota Funeral Directors Association, and State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation members Carey Bittner, Loretta Quanbeck and family, Bob Eastgate, and William and Alice Schott, all of Bismarck.

The North Dakota Heritage Center is located at 612 East Boulevard Avenue in Bismarck. Hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Saturday-Sunday 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Contact at (701) 328-2666 or visit https://statemuseum.nd.gov.
