Rocket girls get back on winning track, defeat Lakota

Fresh off a humbling defeat two games before, the NR-S girls' basketballers got back into District 7 play, hopeful of maintaining pace towards the top tier in the conference.

At Lakota this past Tuesday evening, Jan. 15, the Rockets regained some of that lost mojo with a 66-37 win over the Raiders to boost their district mark to 2-1 and improve to 6-5 on the year.

Senior Alli Dockter had a big fourth quarter with 11 points, and ended the night as the Rockets' scoring leader with 18. Dockter's fortunes mirrored NR-S' as a whole, as the visiting squad outscored the Raiders 21-4 down the stretch run.

Hannah Haley finished with 15 as well, and Dani Bjerke (14 points) and Cassie Longnecker (11) helped the NR-S field goal numbers.

For Lakota, now 2-10 overall and 0-3 in the district standings, Nora Johnson finished with 10 points.

The Rockets face a stiff test this upcoming week in tangling with several formidable opponents. Tonight (Jan. 21), they host 9-2 Four Winds-Minnewaukan, and board the bus for a road contest against Warwick on Thursday. Both District 7 slates begin with the junior high game at 4:30 p.m.

The girls' team also plays fifth-ranked Langdon/Edmore/Munich in Langdon for a nondistrict clash. B-squad action begins at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, with the varsity game starting around 1 p.m.
