Dear Editor:
As I reminisce about 2018, one story stands out to me. After the storm hit New Rockford on July 8, 2018, the actions of many people showed great character. All earned my respect and pride. I am referring to all who helped to restore the community by clearing trees and debris from our small town, our airport, and our cemeteries. No matter if they were paid or were volunteers, the necessary tasks were accomplished.
There were many blessings that month. I am thinking of your story about the crew of workers from North Central Granite of Devils Lake who gave as a donation to the City, the gift of sending a crew of workers to New Rockford from Devils Lake with their equipment, hoists, and tools who reset 41 grave markers and monuments at the Prairie Home Cemetery and St. John's Cemetery.
I heard rumors that there was a second group of workers who gave of their time and efforts too. If any of these are reading this, please know that I and many others who have family and friends laying in rest at these locations, are deeply grateful to you all. May the summer be of fewer storms. See you in July.
