Obituary: Brandon Kolstad

Brandon Jerome Kolstad, 29, passed away on March 1, 2019, near Sheyenne, N.D. The funeral service was held Friday, March 8 at New Rockford-Sheyenne High School, New Rockford, N.D. Burial was at Riverside Cemetery, Sheyenne. Pastor Jeff Halvorson officiated, and special music was provided by Sam Bennefeld and Mary Ellen Rue. Casket bearers were Reed Ystaas, Michael Allmaras, Matt Ystaas, Taylor Koepplin, Nathan Messner, Elvis Thumb, Jacob Backer and Jerome Lies. Honorary bearers were: Desmond Calhoon, Jon Monier, Cody Berg, Christian Fakes and Zack Southall.

Brandon Kolstad was born July 8, 1989, in Devils Lake, N.D., to Greg and Darlene (Peterson) Kolstad. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Sheyenne. Brandon graduated from New Rockford-Sheyenne High School in 2008. He joined the North Dakota National Guard in 2009 and worked in the oil fields with a fracking crew. He attended Guide & Outfitters School in Montana and worked as a guide in Alaska, Wyoming and Colorado. In 2013 he started Lizard Head Outfitters with his dad in Dolores, Colo.

On Oct. 2, 2017, he married the love of his life, Sarah Tulving in Silverton, Colo. Brandon was currently working for Delta Waterfowl and partnering with his dad in his taxidermy business and as a whitetail deer hunting guide.

Brandon is survived by his wife; stepson, Thomas; parents; sister Brittany (Andrew Hokanson); three nephews; grandmother Norma Kolstad; and several aunts and uncles.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Paddy and Jeanette Peterson and grandfather, Donald Kolstad.
