Lorraine Beatrice Schroeder, 96, passed away March 10, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Health, Carrington, N.D. The funeral was held March 16, 2019 at Grace Lutheran Church, Carrington. Burial was in the Carrington Cemetery. Rev. Richard Biberdorf officiated. Special music was provided by Lori Cook and Renee Hopkins. Casket bearers were: Shane and Elizabeth Hauge, Michael and Christina Swanson, Kaycee and Jason Green, Matthew and Ashley Swanson, Ryan and Emily Swanson. Honorary bearers were: family and friends in attendance, Jim and Jane Fredrickson, Betty Montgomery, Becky Pretzer, JoAnn Jensen, Janice Harildstad, Connie Medhus, Lori Cook and Charlotte Bachmeier. Military honors were by U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team.
Lorraine was born on Dec. 29, 1922 to Sophus and Christina (Hansen) Frederickson. She was the youngest of 14 children. Lorraine graduated from Kensal High School in 1940.
Upon graduation, she attended Mayville State Teachers College where she received her teaching certificate. She taught one year near Eldridge and one year in Rolling Prairie Township. In 1943 Lorraine joined the U.S. Navy where she was stationed in the Bronx, N.Y., Cedar Falls, Iowa and Great Lakes, Ill. Following her time in the Navy she working at a bank in Jamestown.
On Oct. 11, 1947, Lorraine and Clarence were united in marriage at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Bordulac, N.D. A highlight of Lorraine's life, was the opportunity to participate in the North Dakota Roughrider Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2011.
Lorraine was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Carrington. She taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir there for many years. Lorraine was a member of the Kelley Creek Homemakers, the Hospital Auxiliary, and was a 4-H leader for ten years. In addition, she was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and American Legion.
She is survived by two daughters: Linda Hauge, Fairhope, Ala., Mary (Dennis) Swanson, Carrington; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and another great-grandson due in May.
Lorraine is preceded in death by her parents; husband; twin daughters Jean and Jane; daughter Carol; five brothers; and eight sisters.
