Two sentenced for DUI
Paul M. Prince Jr. of Oberon pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and driving under suspension in court on March 6. The charges stemmed from a Nov. 26, 2018 traffic stop, when he was cited for driving 16-20 mph over the speed limit. Judge Hovey sentenced him to 12 days in jail beginning March 13, followed by 108 days of electronic home monitoring. He was assessed a $2,000 fine and $360 in fees, for a total of $2,360. He shall also report via the 24/7 sobriety program for six months. According to court documents, this is Prince Jr.’s third driving under the influence offense.
Sterling L. Mayer of New Rockford was also sentenced for driving under the influence and driving under suspension in court on March 6. Mayer was arrested on Dec. 5, 2018, after a traffic stop. He initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on Dec. 13. Per his plea agreement, he was sentenced to 10 days in jail. He served four days at Lake Region Correctional Center, March 6-9. The remaining six days were exchanged for 60 hours of community service. Judge Hovey also assessed Mayer a $1,500 fine and $285 in court fees. This was Mayer’s second driving under the influence arrest in two months.
Bottineau man pleads guilty to theft, hit and run
Cody Beaver of Bottineau received a 30-day suspended jail sentence from Judge Hovey on March 1. He was charged with two counts of theft, one each Class C Felony and Class A Misdemeanor, and duty upon striking an unattended vehicle. The charges stemmed from three separate incidents. The first was a hit and run in the Miller’s Fresh Foods parking lot on December 30, 2017. Then, the theft charges came from instances in which Beaver stole two video game systems and used a local woman’s credit card to make purchases in Bismarck. Beaver initially pleaded not guilty to the charges on Nov. 15, 2018. He amended his plea to guilty on March 1. He is now subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation and shall pay $701 in restitution and $525 in fees.
Speldrich sentenced in drug case
Michael Speldrich of Sheyenne pleaded guilty to Class C Felony possession of drug paraphernalia and misdemeanor possession of marijuana in court on March 1. The charges were filed July 13, 2018. Speldrich initially pleaded not guilty to the misdemeanor charge on Aug. 9, and the felony charge on Oct. 11. He changed his pleas to guilty on March 1. Speldrich was ordered to pay $525 in court fees and is subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation.
Two face charges after traffic stops
Kylee J. Reinhart of Williston is due to appear in court on April 11. She faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after a traffic stop on March 8. According to the citation, Reinhart failed to dim her headlamps for an oncoming vehicle, which led to the stop. The charges were filed after a subsequent search of the vehicle.
Brent J. Pavelka of Devils Lake also will appear in court on April 11 for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. According to the written citation, Pavelka was driving 75 mph in a 65 mph zone when he was stopped by authorities. The officer alleges that he discovered marijuana and paraphernalia in Pavelka’s vehicle during the stop, which led to the charges.
All cases originally set for hearings on Thursday, March 14 were rescheduled to April 11 due to inclement weather.
