Libraries strengthen communities: National Library Week April 7-13

This week, the Eddy-New Rockford Library joins libraries of all types in celebrating the many ways libraries build strong communities by providing critical resources, programs and expertise.

April 7-13, 2019 is National Library Week, an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians and library workers play in transforming lives and communities. Libraries are at the heart of their cities, towns, schools and campuses. They have public spaces where people of all backgrounds can come together and connect.

"Libraries are cornerstones of democracy, promoting the free exchange of information and ideas for all," said Susie Sharp, Eddy-New Rockford Public librarian. "They also foster civic engagement by keeping people informed and aware of community events and issues."

The Eddy-New Rockford Library is celebrating National Library Week by posting video tutorials on how to use the card catalog, downloading ebooks and audiobooks, and using RB Digital from the North Dakota State Library. Watch the library's Facebook page and their website, http://www.newrockfordndlibrary.com/ for these videos. They will also be giving away a book a day on their Facebook Page.

First sponsored in 1958, National Library Week is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries across the country each April. Library hours are Monday 12 to 6 p.m. and Tuesday-Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
