Local seniors shine at FBLA State Leadership Conference

Three members of the New Rockford-Sheyenne Future Business Leaders of

America (FBLA) chapter attended the 52nd annual ND FBLA State Leadership Conference in Bismarck, March 31 – April 2, 2019. Over 60 FBLA chapters from across the state participated in this conference, where approximately 1,300 students had the opportunity to test their business skills against other students from around the state.

The most exciting aspect of the conference is the competitive events program. Students have the opportunity to test the business skills they've learned in the classroom in a variety of individual, team and chapter events. Students can enter events such as accounting, computer applications, public speaking, job interview, website design or business ethics. The culmination of the competitive events program is the awards ceremony where winners are recognized for their accomplishments. In addition to the competitive events program, students had the opportunity to attend workshops, vote for the 2019-20 state officer team, and network with members from around the state. This year, members also had the opportunity to hear from ND FBLA alums, Kendra and Krista Slaubaugh who make up the band "Tigirlily".

Gretchen Berglund placed eighth in Business Communication and eighth in Business Law. Logan Munson placed fourth in Political Science. Jake Williams placed second in Journalism. Jake and Logan qualified to attend nationals, which will be held in San Antonio, Texas this summer. Ms. Patricia Rinde, NR-S Adviser, received the FBLA Local Adviser Service Award.

NR-S chapter president Gretchen Berglund, Who's Who award recipients Logan Munson and Jake Williams, and adviser Patricia Rinde all participated in the Parade of Chapters during the opening session. Logan and Jake also served as state officer voting delegates for New Rockford-Sheyenne.
