Dakota Recreation Report- April 8, 2019

Outdoor notes:

*April 9: N.D. Game and Fish Dept. public advisory meeting, Lake Region State College, 1801 College Dr., Devils Lake, 7 p.m.

*April 13: Spring turkey season opens.

*April 13: Central Dakota Rocky Mtn. Elk Foundation, Gladstone Inn, Jamestown, 5 p.m.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, April 2: 1,448.41 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,448.38 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,843.18 MSL; 13,000 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game and Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: Little activity on area lakes with anglers generally waiting for open water fishing. No Devils Lake or Missouri River System reports.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Improving perch success with continued pike and walleye activity. Try Lake Alice or Lake Irvine for pike and walleye.

*Devils Lake, Lakeview Lodge, Minnewaukan: Some anglers still venturing onto Devils Lake with fair walleye success on Lake Irvine. Not many perch from Irvine but those caught are nice-sized. Continued pike success. Weather could change conditions quickly, however.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Improving late ice walleye, pike, and perch success. Access and mobility on the ice varies throughout the lake so check conditions in advance and use caution. Try jigging spoons with minnow heads for walleye and small jigs for perch.

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Access now limited on area lakes with little activity as shorelines become muddy and slushy.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: Area lakes and the river generally quiet as anglers wait for ice-out.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Some anglers walking onto area lakes more so than the Jamestown Reservoir for late season walleye and perch using jigs and minnows. Ice and shoreline conditions can rapidly change, however, so use extreme caution.

*Lake Ashtabula, Ashtabula Crossing, Luverne: Water on the ice and shorelines with no activity.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: No activity with water on top of the ice, along shorelines, and seeping through the ice.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait and Tackle, Garrison: Shorelines opening up along Lake Sakakawea with ice rapidly deteriorating. Look for some open water shore-fishing for pike soon. Missouri River tailrace continues producing walleye from shore, honey hole and chutes from boats, and wing walls. Moving around down river is tricky with low water due to low Garrison Dam releases.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River continues producing walleye down river using jigs and minnows. Use caution, however, with low releases creating low water situations. Try three-way swivels in the chutes. Also try the wing walls or from shore.

*Lonetree WMA area lakes, Harvey: Some anglers walking onto Goose Lake off the highway but no reports on success. Look for open water shorelines on area lakes and water on top of the ice.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: No reports.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: No new reports.

*Spiritwood Lake, Pioneer Bait and Tackle, Jamestown: No new reports.

*Spiritwood Lake, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Little activity.
