Last week: May 5 and 6, Amanda Hegland’s sister, Angie Alexander, Newell, S.D., Carrie Ohman and Amy Meyers of Rapid City, S.D. came to North Dakota. Amanda, Angie, Carrie and Amy went to Fargo for the weekend and took in the Pink concert on Saturday night. Amanda’s mom, Nancy Weischedel spent the weekend with Fallyn and Piper Hegland. Sunday, Jake, Amanda, Fallyn and Piper attended the celebration for Logan Zietz’s baptism and Silas Zietz’s birthday party in Horace at the Zietz home.

This week: Tom and Pam Schmid traveled to Fargo to attend Jakob’s graduation and open house at NDSU on Saturday. Congratulations, Jakob. Sunday, Pam enjoyed a Mother’s Day breakfast with Jakob. Tom returned to Oberon on Saturday.

Lester Roberts was in New Rockford on business Monday and Thursday. Saturday, Lester, his daughter Lezlee, and her friend, Bob Hoffart went to Grand Forks and attended the graduation ceremony at UND. Lester’s daughter, Bobbi Duberowski’s daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Duberowski, received her masters degree. Congratulations to Jacqueline. Following graduation, Lester, Lezlee and Bob visited Lezlee’s son, Ryan Thorson and his wife, Megan and their son, Aiden at their home in Grand Forks. Megan’s parents, Mike and Nancy Farbo of Cando were also visiting at the Thorson’s. Roger, Lezlee and Bob visited Lester on Sunday. Sunday evening, Lester called on James Nelson. James reported that his son, Carlyle returned to his home in Newtown, Conn., on Thursday after spending a week with his dad.

Charlotte Simon and Sue LaFleur went on the Farmers Union mystery bus trip May 6-9. They had a wonderful time. No information about where they went and what they did can be published, as there are more groups going on this trip- so the destination has to remain, well—a mystery. Friday evening, Charlotte attended the “Coming Home” concert by Jessie Veeder who was voted North Dakota’s favorite folk musician. The concert was held at Harriman’s in Maddock. Saturday, Charlotte and her brother, Rodney Heilman and his son Jerad of Jamestown, spent time with their mother/grandmother, Joan Bosch at the Care Center in Rugby. They all enjoyed a Mother’s Day tea for the residents and guests. Randy and Charlotte traveled to Grand Forks Sunday morning and attended mass at Holy Family where their daughter, Heidi Thompson was the Cantor. Following church services, the Simon’s enjoyed a Mother’s Day lunch at the home of Carson, Heidi, Elin and Max Thompson. Carson’s parents, Terry and Melodee Thompson, of Devils Lake were also guests at the Thompson home. After lunch, Randy and Charlotte went on to Fargo to take in their grandson, Mason Simon’s soccer game. After the soccer game, they all had ice cream at Dairy Queen and Randy and Charlotte returned home to Oberon.

Doris Griffin volunteered at Sully’s Hill Visitor Center Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was opening day with a nature festival offering special activities all day.

Elisa Buehler visited Bria and Brittin Buehler Friday evening. Beau and Brittin visited Grandpa Todd on Saturday. Nadley, Elisa and Breana went to Fargo to attend Hunter’s graduation ceremony at NDSU Saturday afternoon. Grace Ihry joined them for the ceremony and a supper to celebrate. Congratulations Hunter. Todd, Nadley, Elisa, Breana, Beau, Bria and Brittin celebrated Mother’s Day attending church at Calvary in Oberon and later enjoying a buffet luncheon. Hunter and Grace Ihry joined the family later at the farm.

Wednesday evening, Linda Madson joined Melodie, Kennedee and McKenzee Madson for services at Our Saviors Church in Devils Lake. The girls have attended church school on Wednesdays after school where they have supper and activities followed by a short church service. Wednesday evening was the last one for the summer. The children sang and a special video showing the kids doing their activities and various shots of the church and the congregation was shown as well followed by the sermon and communion. Friday, Dave and Linda drove to Grand Forks where Linda kept a medical appointment, had lunch and did some shopping. Dave, Linda, Melodie, Kennedee and McKenzee attended church services at Calvary in Oberon followed by a delicious Mexican fiesta lunch prepared by Carrie Madson and Paul Prince at the Madson farm. Shawn and Cathy Caulfield of Jamestown joined the group for lunch and visiting. Cathy’s May 6 and Carrie’s May 15 birthdays were also celebrated with coffee and cake. Linda enjoyed a Mother’s Day phone conversation with son, Stacy, Sunday evening.

Thought to Remember: If you want to leave your footprints in the sands of time, wear work shoes.
