Schaefer headed to state golf tourney

For the third year in a row, NR-S junior Benjamin Schaefer has made it back to the High School State Golf Tournament, to be held in Jamestown this year.

Schaefer’s season started off a little “up and down,” but once May hit he really turned it on. Ben competes in the toughest region in the state, and that makes him better for it. Kindred, Oak Grove and Hillsboro are the three top teams in the region. At state last year, all three of these teams finished in the top four, and Kindred had the first place individual winner in the state. With all of those top golfers, it is even more impressive that Ben made it back to state again.

In the qualifying regional meet in Carrington in May, Ben shot a 74, two over par, and finished in second place to the state winner from last year.

The state tournament this year is at the Jamestown Country Club on May 28-29.

At last year’s state meet, Ben finished in 20th place last year out of 127 golfers. Ben has been a positive force on the local team all year, as he never misses practice or meets. He is well deserving of his success because of his great work ethic and dedication to the game.
