Anna Mae Tollefson, 90, New Rockford, N.D. passed away Friday, May 24, 2019 at CHI St. Alexius Medical Center in Carrington.
Anna Mae Johnson, daughter of Paul and Lydia (Rudel) Johnson, was born May 22, 1929, on her parents' farm near Fessenden, where she was raised. She attended Fessenden Public School, graduating from high school in 1947. She later took the Civil Service exam and began working for the Farmers Home Administration, then located in the lower level of the New Rockford Post Office.
On Oct. 10, 1953, she was united in marriage to Alford Tollefson in New Rockford. They made their home on the Tollefson farm east of New Rockford, where she was actively engaged in the farming operations along with raising three children and always putting a fabulous meal on the table, to which Larry could attest! Following the loss of her husband, Alford, in March 2004, Anna Mae remained on the farm and continued to participate in the farming/ranching operation.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in New Rockford and looked forward to her monthly meetings with her Martha Circle friends. In the past years she had been a member of her neighborhood Homemakers club. Anna Mae's greatest joy was being independent at home and spending time with her close-knit family. She also enjoyed the DPRCA productions in New Rockford; listening to music; and watching sports over the years, especially Bison football and NBA basketball. She was a very good host, serving any visitors with whatever was her specialty that day. With her quiet strength, she was a kind, gentle soul who always put everyone before herself. If her family was happy, she was happy!
She is survived by her children, Terry (Irene McBain) Tollefson and Tim (Dori) Tollefson, all of rural New Rockford, and Sheri (Alan) Bruins of Arnegard; seven grandchildren, including Tyler, whom they raised from age 2; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Anna Mae was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers and sister-in-law, Gordon and Morris (Darlene).
Funeral was Friday, May 31, 2019 at 11 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in New Rockford.
Visitation was held Thursday, May 30 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. followed by a prayer service all at the church. Burial was Saturday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at the Saron Lutheran Cemetery of rural Minot.
Arrangements made with Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden.
