Obituary: Marlys Peterson

Marlys Rene (Olson) Peterson, 84, former Grandfield Township native, passed away Nov. 13, 2018, in Sacramento, Calif. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. June 15, 2019, at the Grandfield Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Sheyenne, N.D. Pastor Jeff Halvorson will Officiate.

Marlys was born to Ingvald and Florence (Lindstrom) Olson, Jan. 4, 1934, at the family homestead west of Sheyenne. She attended Greenfield School No. 2, and went to Sheyenne High School and Benson County Agricultural High School in Maddock.

After receiving a teaching certificate from Minot State College, she taught one school term in the Paradise School District, rural McHenry. She married Yerbie Keister, of Oberon, N.D. She taught nursery school worked as a secretary, then started a bookkeeping and tax preparation business, as an IRS enrolled agent, in Sacramento, and attended Davis University, receiving a degree in Social Welfare. She was once married to Jack Peterson. She helped in organizing "Sharing and Caring" in Sacramento, Calif.

She is survived by sons; Tony (Roxie) Keister and Daniel (Doria) Keister, both of Sacramento, one grandson; one sister, Margaret (Peggy) Gudmunson, of New Rockford; one brother-in-law Terry Braathen, Tolna, N.D.; many cousins; nieces; nephews and all the faithful and loyal friends of Sharing and Caring.

She was preceeded in death by her parents; grandparents; aunts and uncles; four nephews; three nieces; four brothers, Gene (Joyce) Olson; Ernie Olson; James (Mary) Olson; and Loren Olson; five sisters, Shirley (Ralph) Westby; Lily (Loyd) Westby; LouAnn Carlson; Faye (Darwyn) Kanzelman; Virginia Braathen and many cousins.
