Obituary: Lucille Gestson

Lucille Anderson Gestson completed her baptismal journey on Thursday night, June 20, 2019, surrounded by her husband, two daughters and close family friends. At age 90, she had lived a full and wonderful life; she set an example of how to be a strong, independent woman with a quiet faith.

Lucille Anderson Gestson was born May 10, 1929, the youngest child of Oscar and Martha Johnson Anderson. She grew up on a farm near Sheyenne, N.D. with her four siblings.

She attended rural school grades 1 through 8 at Grandfield School and high school in Sheyenne, graduating May of 1946. She then attended Junior College in Devils Lake, N.D., after which she worked for three years at Fairmont Foods in Devils Lake. In 1952 she went to Fargo, N.D., where she was employed initially as a bookkeeper but primarily as a teller at First National Bank, she remained employed there until October of 1982.

Lucille was introduced to Stephen (Steve) Kenneth Gestson through mutual friends and they married on May 14, 1960, celebrating 59 years of marriage this year! They raised their two daughters, Renee and LaVonne, in Fardo, and took them on many family camping trips, instilled in them a Christian faith and the importance of family.

In 1982, Steve, Lucille and LaVonne moved to Arlington, Texas, to pursue a job opportunity for Steve. However, they did not enjoy the climate in Texas, so in 1983, Steve obtained a job in Denver and Lucille became employed as a teller at Citywide Bank of Northglenn. She remained there until her retirement in 1991. Lucille and Steve lived in Westminster and Federal Heights. Lucille loved living in Colorado and took many trips throughout the state. Renee and her husband, Tom, remained in Fargo until 1995 when they moved to Colorado to join the rest of the family.

Lucille loved traveling, playing the piano, reading, crossword puzzles, photography, crafts, bowling, the occasion trip "up the hill," bingo and activities with the church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myrtle Anderson Strand, and her brother Clarence Anderson. She is survived by her husband Steve Geston, daughter Renee Gestson Haskins and husband Thomas Haskins, daughter LaVonne Gestson Vespoli and her husband Joseph Vespoli, sister Muriel Anderson Thoreson and brother Eugene Anderson.
