Eddy County Sheriff's report for July

Michael Speldrich of Sheyenne was cited for failure to report an accident at the 6100 block of County Road 9 on June 30. His damaged vehicle was removed from a cornfield and taken to a body shop in Carrington. The vehicle did not have an accident sticker so the body shop refused to fix it. Speldrich contacted the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office to make a report and get a sticker. Based on the accident investigation Speldrich was cited for failure to give notice of accident, leaving the scene of an accident and careless driving. He was assessed $90 in fines in court on July 11.

Scott Lloyd Jr. of Devils Lake was found in contempt of court for failing to pay fines and fees per a 2018 case. He was arrested for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in April 2018. He was sentenced on April 19, 2018 and assessed $600 in fines and fees. Lloyd was found in contempt for the second time on July 11, and he was ordered to serve 5 days in jail as a remedial sanction. The contempt may be purged by making $75 per month payments commencing July 26 and continuing until paid in full.

Christian Doll of New Rockford was arrested on March 20 and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, schedule I, II or III; possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana and ingesting marijuana. He was later charged with aggravated assault- domestic violence on April 6 after he assaulted his girlfriend in their New Rockford apartment, causing numerous injuries including a broken bone in her spinal column. He pleaded guilty to the charges in court on July 11. He received a 360-day jail sentence, with 180 days suspended and credit for 85 days served. Doll is currently in the state penitentiary. Upon release he is subject to 3 years supervised probation and $1,060 in fines and fees.

Rebecca Gustafson of New Rockford was charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. Deputies were called on June 15 to do a welfare check on Gustafson at her apartment and found her unconscious with marijuana in plain view. According to the criminal complaint, she had 33 grams of marijuana in her apartment at the time. Gustafson filed a written guilty plea with the court, and as a result she received a deferred sentence. She was ordered to pay $250 in court fees and is subject to six months of unsupervised probation.

Alicia Tollefson of New Rockford faces a felony charge of child neglect and a misdemeanor charge of ingesting a controlled substance. Deputies conducted a welfare check on June and alleged that she was under the influence of methamphetamine while taking care of a two year old child at the time. Tollefon entered a plea of not guilty for the drug charge in court on July 11. Her preliminary hearing/arraignment on the child neglect charge is set for Aug. 8.

Two more women also face similar charges after a separate incident. Social Services contacted the Eddy County Sheriff’s Office asking for a welfare check at the Scott residence. While at the home, authorities allege that drug paraphernalia was located in the apartment within the reach of the children that were present. Marie Scott of Fessenden was charged with felony endangerment of a child or vulnerable adult and two misdemeanor charges of ingesting marijuana and ingesting a controlled substance other than marijuana. Charges for Latasha Scott of New Rockford include felony endangerment of a child and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of methamphetamine and ingesting a controlled substance-marijuana. Both are due in court for a preliminary hearing/arraignment for the felony charges on Aug. 8.

Cheryl Logan of Sheyenne was arrested for driving under the influence on June 28. According to the criminal complaint, her blood alcohol content was 0.151% at the time of the arrest, nearly twice the legal limit. She pleaded guilty to the charge on July 11. Judge Hovey sentenced her to 360 days of probation, ordered her to complete a chemical dependency evaluation and required her to pay $750 in fines and fees.

Lathan Chaske of Fort Totten was charged with driving under suspension, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of marijuana in January after two separate incidents in the Casey’s General Store parking lot in New Rockford. Chaske pleaded guilty to the two drug-related charges on April 11, and he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, suspended for 360 days of unsupervised probation, and ordered to pay $550 in fines and fees. He pleaded not guilty to driving under suspension, then failed to appear for his preliminary hearing in the case, which was set for June 20. He was arrested on June 25 and later pleaded guilty to the charge on July 11. As a result, his probation was extended to July 2020, and another $150 in fines and fees were tacked on to his balance.

Anthony Abrahamson of Fort Totten faces a driving under suspension charge. He was cited on June 16, and he is due in court for an initial appearance on Aug. 8.

Charles Novotny of Sheyenne pleaded guilty to his third driving under revocation charge in 5 years. He was cited on June 12, and he appeared in court on July 11. Judge Hovey sentenced him to 360 days of unsupervised probation, gave him a 5 day suspended jail sentence, and ordered him to pay $450 in fines and fees. Novotny has racked up quite a few charges in the surrounding area over the past 12 years. He was previously convicted of driving under suspension (DUS) in February, and in Wells County in 2017. He has four prior convictions for DUS between 2007 and 2013.

Timothy M. Reid of Minot was charged with his fifth DUS violation in as many years on June 11. He was previously convicted in Cass County in 2019, McKenzie County in 2018, and Ward County in 2015 and 2016. Reid will make his initial appearance on the Eddy County charge on Aug. 8.

Donald Abell of New Rockford was initially stopped for speeding on April 3 when authorities discovered that his license was suspended and he lacked liability insurance. Abell reached a plea agreement in the case on July 11 and was given a suspended 2 day jail sentence subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation and ordered to pay $360 in fines and fees.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Jaden Whitetail of Fort Totten. He faces charges of possession of marijuana and giving false information to law enforcement. According to the criminal complaint, he identified himself to Deputy Hilger as JaeShaun Shaw on June 1. He also gave a false date of birth. Whitetail failed to appear in court on July 11.

Other active warrants include Joshua Brydon of New Rockford and Phillip Lablanc of Oberon.

Lori Northridge of New Rockford was sentenced for a pair of drug charges on July 11. The charges, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, stemmed from an April 3 incident. After she tested positive for drugs and failed to appear in court on June 20, a warrant was issued for her arrest. She spent four days in jail last month, and the remainder of her 30-day sentence was suspended. Northridge was ordered to pay $285 in fees and is subject to 360 days of unsupervised probation and 180 days of testing under the 24/7 program. Authorities say she is currently in treatment.

Elizabeth K. Albrecht of New Rockford was sentenced for reckless driving and cited for care required after she struck an unattended vehicle on Central Avenue in New Rockford. Initially she was charged with duty upon striking an unattended vehicle. Albrecht reached a plea agreement with authorities on July 11, which resulted in the lesser charge of reckless driving. She received a 2-day jail sentence suspended for 360 days of unsupervised probation and was ordered to pay $400 in fines and fees.

Michael Vacura of Jamestown, formerly of Hamar, was sentenced for failing to register as a sex offender. He moved out of Eddy County between May and September 2018 and didn’t report his new address as required by law. A warrant was issued for his arrest on October 4, 2018. He was arrested in May, and he pleaded guilty in court on July 11. He was sentenced to 360 days in the Stutsman County Correctional Center, with 270 days suspended and credit for 52 days served. According to the judgement entered July 11, he had 38 days remaining of his sentence. Once released he is subject to one year of unsupervised probation and shall pay $560 in fines and fees.
