Patrick F. Caulfield, 89, Jamestown, N.D., died Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Sanford Health in Fargo, N.D.
Patrick was born Jan. 4, 1930 at Chicago, Ill, the son of Michael and Susan (McCullaugh) Caulfield. At an early age he moved to Jamestown, N.D. where he graduated from Jamestown High School in 1948. He attended Jamestown College for one year.
He enlisted with the North Dakota National Guard in 1948 and entered the U.S. Army Jan. 16, 1951 at Jamestown and served in the Korean Conflict. He was discharged May 1, 1952 at Camp McCoy, Wis. with the rank of Sergeant. Patrick was not drafted, but volunteered in placement of a young man having a new baby.
In 1952 he started his career with Ottertail Power. Patrick and Kathleen A. Lewis were married June 25, 1955 at Jamestown. They made their home in New Rockford where he worked as a service representative for Ottertail for 40 years serving the communities of New Rockford and Sheyenne. He bought the New Rockford Theater with co-owner Richard Johnson, a good friend, and ran it for 23 years. They moved to Jamestown where they have continued to reside.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church, the New Rockford Fire Department for 28 years, New Rockford Ambulance Squad for 7 years, served as Commander of the American Legion Post #30 and 36 years on the Legion Burial Squad. He served as water commissioner, president of the zoning commission, president of Kiwanis and served on the New Rockford Country Club board. He was treasurer of the New Rockford Community Development Corporation, secretary/treasurer of the New Rockford Golf Club, steered the committee when installing grass greens at the golf course, participated in Fourth of July musicals and was a teacher of Christine Doctrine.
Patrick is survived by his wife, Kathleen, Jamestown; three children, Shawn (Cathy) Caulfield, Bryan (Billie Jo Martin) Caulfield, all of Jamestown; Colleen (Terry) Lund, Buchanan, N.D .; 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Thomas.
Mass of Christian Burial was Aug. 2, 2019 at the Basilica of St. James in Jamestown.
