Eddy County 4-H'ers were honored on Sunday, Sept. 8 at the Eddy County 4-H Roundup Awards Night.
After 4-H'ers, leaders, families and friends gathered for a potluck supper, an awards presentation was held, in which each 4-H'er was recognized for his or her accomplishments. A number of special awards were also given out.
Charles Jorgensen received the beef calf award for his efforts caring for and training a baby calf on his farm.
Chaztin Wobbema earned the Science, Engineering and Technology award, as much of his 4-H work this past year focused on those project areas.
Christopher Becker received the Horticulture and Agronomy awards.
Gretchen Berglund earned the Key Club award. She was also recognized with her 10-year membership pin, along with Keegan Anderson and Sandra Larson.
First-year 4-H'er Joie Helseth took home three awards, including the Donald McAvoy award, which is given to a 4-H member who is active in equine and/or agricultural projects. Helseth also earned one of two Achievement 13 & Under awards and the Overall 1st Year Achievement award.
Lora Wobbema received the second Achievement 13 & Under award. Wobbema also earned the Healthy Living award, which recognizes achievement in food and nutrition, food preservation, and other related projects.
Shutterbug Macey Wobbema received the Photography award.
Clothing & Textiles was the area of recognition for Maggie Wobbema, who wrote in her application about what she learned about sewing through 4-H last year.
Maria Becker and Mason Schuster both earned the Achievement 14 & Over award, which highlights their 4-H work since turning 14. Schuster also received the Beef award. His brother Mathew earned the Small Animal award. Both boys showed cattle and chickens at 4-H Achievement Day in July and work hard to raise the animals.
Nicholas Berglund received the Sheep award, and Rebekah Widmer took home the Swine award. Widmer took her pig to both Eddy County Achievement Days and the North Dakota State Fair.
Tillie Swart earned the most awards this year. She exhibited 26 projects and took home honors in Citizenship, Personal Development and Leadership, Creative Arts, Family and Consumer Science and Environment. She also received the Overall 2nd Year Achievement award.
Karla Berglund received a pin for serving 10 years as a leader and volunteer in Eddy County 4-H.
The new 4-H year begin Sept. 1. Enrollment is open now, and each of the county's three clubs- Tiffany, Rough Riders and Trail Riders, are eager to invite new members. For more information about 4-H and the opportunities available through this program, contact Extension Agent Donna Anderson at (701) 947-2454. She will help youth find the club that best fits their interests.
