Two NR-S teams compete in volleyball tourney at home

The NR-S gym played host to six area teams on Saturday, Sept. 21.

The junior varsity volleyball tournament started bright and early that morning with pool play. Both the NR-S "B" team and NR-S "C" team played two of the other opponents - Harvey/Wells County, Midkota, Carrington and Four Winds/Minnewaukan.

Each of the NR-S teams ended pool play as the second seed. The "B" team had opened the day with a 1-1 loss to Carrington (25-17, 14-25), then tied Midkota (26-24, 24-26). Carrington won two straight sets over Midkota, 27-26 and 25-15.

The "C" squad lost to Harvey/WC before topping Four Winds. Set scores not available.

In tournament play, the "C" squad lost to Midkota. The Rockets "B" team defeated Harvey/Wells County. Set scores were not available.

The "B" team's win over Harvey (25-21, 25-17) put them in the championship contest to play another against Carrington. The Cardinals ramped it up and defeated the locals in two straight sets, 25-12 and 25-18.

In the third place game, Midkota defeated Harvey/Wells County in two straight sets. Set scores were not available for that game.

The "C" squad faced off against Four Winds in the fifth place game, where they came away with the win in two sets. The final tally in those sets was 25-19 and 26-24.

More tournament action for the local teams took place on Saturday. Sept. 28. The varsity headed to Devils Lake, the junior varsity traveled to Carrington, and the junior high girls were at home.
