Obituary: Robert Koenig

Robert Leland Koenig went to be with his Lord and Savior Sept. 26, 2019 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City, N.D., where the funeral service was held on Oct 3. Rev. Leslie Koenig officiated with special music by Diana Van Buggen.

Bob was born March 17, 1936 to Ferdinand and Susan (Reiser) Koenig. He grew up on a farm near Underwood, N.D. and graduated from Underwood High School in 1954. He married Lynette Lord on Oct. 22, 1961 at Grace Community Church in Lake Park, Minn. After getting married, Bob and Lynn settled on the Koenig family farm near Underwood where Bob farmed and Lynn worked as a nurse's aide at the Garrison Hospital. In 1972, Bob began working for Clark Trucking so the family moved to Carrington, N.D.

While in Carrington, Bob drove truck for Clark Trucking, GTA Elevator, and Bid Brothers Trucking. During his time trucking, Bob hauled cattle, bees, gravel, grain, sugar beets, and many types of parts and machinery. Bob drove truck for 40 plus years and he delivered to 48 of the 50 states.

Bob also served nine years in the Army Reserve and 18 years in the National Guard.

When Bob retired from trucking and the military, he and Lynn bought her parent's home and retired together in Lake Park. They lived there until June 2017 when their health forced them to move into the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.

Bob enjoyed deer hunting with his sons, playing cards, helping his wife with the garden, watching his favorite show ''Walker, Texas Ranger," but mostly he enjoyed a Coke while visiting with friends and family. Every summer he would take the family on a camping trip to Lake Metigoshe and the Peace Gardens. Although he traveled his whole career he still enjoyed taking his family on trips. Some bigger ones were driving to Mexico to visit with family friends, spending their 40th anniversary at Disney World with Les' family, and taking Lynn on her dream vacation to Hawaii.

Bob is survived by his four children: Lori (Darrin Arneson) of Fargo, Leland (Mary) of New Rockford; Leslie (Julie) of Valley City, Lane (Michelle) of New Rockford; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother Donald (Sue) Koenig of Pasadena, Md.; and sister Eileen (Don) Doble of Miltona, Minn.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, wife Lynn, brother Jim, children Lisa and Lance, and a special friend of the family Karen Tarbell.
