“Trusting the Father”
by Rhianne Bowman
One of the big things God taught me in college was how to trust him. I came to college and didn't know what my major was going to be or what I wanted to do with my life and people kept telling me "just trust God, he will lead you in the right direction." I got frustrated because I wanted to trust God but I didn't know how to do that. As I went through my four years of college, God slowly started to teach me how to trust him. It started with small things, my class schedule. He worked everything out, opened doors to being able to take classes I needed or wanted to take. Then it came to a part time job. He helped me find a job that fit around my classes and gave me the weekends off. Slowly but surely God was easing me into learning how to trust him. As I learned to trust God, the bigger questions like, what do I major in, what are my passions, what am I called seemed less daunting because I saw how God came through in the past. By learning to trust him, when God called me into ministry and into a job that comes with raising a budget and living truly by faith, less scary. Thinking about how freshman year Rhianne would handle the season I am in now is frightening to imagine.
So I encourage you to learn how to trust God, he truly has the best plans for your life.
But trusting him is a process, it won't necessarily happen immediately. Start with the small things, so when it comes time for the big things you will be ready to trust him for the answers. The first step to take is to pray, ask God to help you to be able to trust him with whatever you are facing. He is walking with you always. Lean into him and rest in his arms.
"For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord , “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart."
