New Rockford-Sheyenne played a pretty good overall game as the locals defeated St. John by a final score of 74-69 in first round action of the CNDC Girls Basketball Tournament played at Harvey, on Thursday, Dec. 5.
Both teams definitely wanted to play the up tempo game and at times it was quite physical. St. John led 24-16 after one stanza,the locals had a big second quarter and led 38-36 at halftime. New Rockford-Sheyenne increased the lead to 54-46 after three. St. John held a 23-20 advantage in the fourth but the rockets came thru with a 74-69 win. New Rockford-Sheyenne made 29 field goals, 14 of 20 free throws, committed 20 fouls, and had 18 turnovers. St. John made 22 field goals 16 of 28 free throws committed 15 fouls and had 24 turnovers. Dani Bjerke led the Rockets with a game high 28 points. Hannah Haley added 18 and Chloe Heinz 14 points in leading a good balanced Scoring attack for the locals. The Woodchucks also had a balanced scoring attack. Kendra Prouty had 19 points. Natalie DeCoteau had 16 points. Raycee Reed 15, Megan Boe added 10 points. Although no official stats were given, it appeared the rockets outrebounded St. John by a sizeable margin. Again the rockets had a good overall team effort.

Panthers defeat Rockets
The biggest difference in this game was the second quarter as Rugby defeated New Rockford- Sheyenne by a final score of 42-35 in semifinal found action of the CNDC Girls Basketball Tournament played at harvey on friday, Dec. 6. A basket by Dani Bjerke gave the locals a 4-2 lead with 6:20 left in the first. Rugby then went on a 10-0 run to go up 12-4 with 4:34 left in the first. It was 16-12 Rugby after one stanza. The Rockets only scored 2 points in the second and the Panthers led 25-14 at the intermission. Rugby had a 16 point lead at 32 -16 but the locals went on a 13-8 run to cut the lead to 33-27 on two free throws by Hannah Haley with 0:51 left. Rugby led 36-27 after three. A basket by Bbjerke cut the lead to 37-33 with 3:40 to go in the game. The Panthers ended up winning the hard fought game by a final score of 42-35.
For sometime now, Rugby has had a good girls varsity basketball team. The Rockets are now 2-1, overall.
Dani Bjerke led the rockets with 14 points. Tesha Sobolik had 11 points to pace Rugby. New Rockford-Sheyenne made 15 field goals, 5 of 6 free throws and committed 15 fouls.
Rugby made 12 field goals, 12 of 22 free throws and committed eight fouls.

Hornets topple Rockets
New Rockford-Sheyenne really struggled from the field in this game as Harvey-Wells County defeated the Rockets by a final score of 50-24 in the third place game of the CNDC Girls Basketball Tournament played at Harvey, on Saturday, Dec. 7. The Hornets led virtually all the way, and at all quarter stops, 11-2, 26-4, 44-16 and again Harvey-Wells County came away with a 50-24 win.
The Rockets did have some trouble against the Hornets zone defense. Maggie Raue paced the hornets with 11 points. Hannah Haley led the Rockets with 8 points.
Harvey-Wells County made 20 field goals, 6 of 10 free throws and committed 11 fouls.
New Rockford-Sheyenne made nine field goals, five of six free throws and committed 11 fouls.
