The first half was very close but Carrington had a big third quarter as the Cardinals defeated New Rockford-Sheyenne, by a final score of 62-48 in non-region girls basketball action, played here on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Carrington will be one of the top teams in Region 3. The Rockets did a pretty good of handling their defensive pressure. The Rockets never quit but the locals did get into some foul trouble. It was also a pretty physical game throughout. Carrington led virtually all the way and at all quarter stops, 14-9, 25-23, 48-32 and again the visitors won by a final score of 62-48.
Carrington made 22 field goals, 8 of 12 free throws and committed 12 fouls. NR-S made 17 field goals, 9 of 18 free throws and committed 17 fouls. Overall, it was a hard fought game. Both teams had good balanced scoring.
Kiera Eli paced Carrington with a game high 20 points. Marah Schmitz had 12 and Sydnie Grager added 10. Dani Bjerke paced NR-S with 13 points. Hannah Haley and Cassie Longnecker each added 10 points. The Rockets are now 3-3 overall.
