Everyone is invited to the New Rockford-Sheyenne School District Blue Ribbon Celebration.
The fun begins on Friday, Jan. 3 at 5 p.m. Elementary staff will host an indoor carnival at the school and invite everyone to come out for some good old fashioned fun.
Starting at 5:30, the Rocket Boosters will serve a light meal, and the NR-S school board will host an ice cream social complete with all the toppings.
At 7 p.m., the carnival and games will come to an end, making way for a ceremony in the gymnasium. N.D. District 23 Senator Joan Heckaman will serve as the emcee for the evening and will have the pleasure of unveiling a student-produced video in honor of the award. Special speakers for the evening include State Superintendent Kirsten Baesler, Lieutenant Governor Brent Sanford, and NR-S sixth grader Vinnie Ruppel.
NR-S is one of two schools in the state to be honored with the award.
The coveted National Blue Ribbon Schools award affirms the hard work of students, educators, families and communities in creating safe and welcoming schools where students master challenging and engaging content. Now in its 37th year, the National Blue Ribbon Schools program has bestowed recognition on more than 9,000 schools.
On Nov. 14 - 15, NR-S instructor Jamie Risovi traveled to Washington, D.C. to accept the award. Upon its arrival in the community, the award plaque began traveling around New Rockford, each week staying somewhere new. The award made its rounds to Bank Forward, Community Credit Union, Rockford Cafe and Central Pharmacy.
Now in its permanent location at the New Rockford-Sheyenne, the award is deeply appreciated by staff and students alike.
