Obituary: Theodore Allmaras

Theodore “Ted” Allmaras, age 94, of New Rockford, ND, died Monday, December 30, 2019, at CHI St. Alexius Hospital in Carrington, N.D.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, January 4, 2020, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church, New Rockford, N.D., with Fr. Reese Weber officiating. Special music was provided by Teresa Arlien, Louise Arlien, Eric Arlien & Zona Mielke. Burial took place at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, New Rockford, N.D. Pall bearers were Linus Allmaras, Arthur Allmaras, Dominic Allmaras, Alison Nybo, Dennis Nybo, Teddy Allmaras, Joshua Allmaras, and Ben Allmaras. Honorary bearers were his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Theodore “Ted” Allmaras was born June 1, 1925, to Katherine (Ackermann) and William Adam Allmaras on the family farm in Bremen Township, Wells County, ND. He attended country school until transferring to New Rockford Central, graduating in 1944. Ted was drafted into the Army in 1944 and served in the Philippines during World War II. Ted was honorably discharged in 1946. He came back and took over the family farm. He farmed for 44 years in Bremen Township. Ted married Naomi L. (Eckert) on October 11, 1951, in New Rockford. They lived on the family farm raising ten children, until retiring to New Rockford where he resided until his death.

Ted had a lifelong interest in sports. He was an avid Twins, Vikings, and Fighting Irish fan. He played baseball, softball, later coaching and umpiring all levels. In February, 1986, he was inducted into the ND Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame.

Ted was a member of the American Legion for 75 years, a charter member of the New Rockford Eagles Club, bank director at Security State Bank for 18 years, and township supervisor for Bremen Township. Ted was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bremen, and was a trustee. He was currently a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. Ted drove school bus from 1967-1990 for the New Rockford school district.

He will be forever missed by his ten children, Garth (Cathy) Allmaras, Peoria, Arizona; Louise (Cort) Arlien, Howard Lake, Minn.; Beth Ramsey, Las Vegas, Nevada; Arthur Allmaras, New Rockford, ND; Roger (Laurie) Allmaras, Grafton, N.D.; Alison (Dennis) Nybo, New Rockford, N.D.; Gertrude (Mike) Magnuson, Flagstaff, Arizona; Linus (Susette) Allmaras, New Rockford, N.D.; Dominic Allmaras, Kindred, N.D.; Zona Mielke, Peoria, Arizona; one brother, Larry, of Coon Rapids, Minn.; 29 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Naomi, his parents, brothers Bill, Ed, Don and Father Alfred; sisters Fran, Betty, Kay, Helen, and Sister Avis, grandson Adam Allmaras, and great grandson Jedediah Allmaras.
