Lady Indians topple Rockets

New Rockford-Sheyenne played a good first quarter of basketball, but Four Winds-Minnewaukan took over from there and defeated the locals by a final score of 69-36 in District 7 girls basketball action, played at Minnewaukan on Monday, Jan. 27. A basket by Hannah Haley tied the game at 5-5 with 5:50 left in the first. A trey by Dani Bjerke with 0:32 left gave the locals a 11-10 lead after one. Early in the second quarter, a bucket by Kayahna Hopfauf, put the locals up 13-10. The Lady Indians went on a 22-2 run to close out the half and led 32-15 at the intermission. Four Winds-Minnewaukan built their lead to 52-25 after three, and again they defeated the Rockets by a final score of 69-36. Four Winds-Minnewaukan is one of the top teams in District 7 and Region 4.

The Rockets never quit and at times, it was a very physical game. Four Winds-Minnewaukan made 25 field goals, 10-19 free throws and committed 7 fouls. The Rockets made 15 field goals, 2 of 4 free throws and committed 17 fouls. Hannah Haley paced New Rockford-Sheyenne with 8 points. MahPiya Jackson paced the Lady Indians with 13 points. The Rockets are now 3-2 in District 7 and 8-5 overall.
