Obituary: Carol Montgomery

Carol Jesslyn Montgomery, age 94, died Feb. 26, 2020, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. The funeral service was held Feb. 29 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington. Burial was at the Carrington Cemetery. Rev. Sarah Shanks officiated with special music provided by Clara Edwardson.

Carol was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Carrington to Gerda (Watne) Mills and Lew Mills. She graduated from Carrington High School. As a teenager, Carol worked part-time at Galehouse Drugstore on Main Street in Carrington.

On Jan. 6, 1945, Carol married Robert Montgomery. Carol and Robert had nine children, whom they loved very much. She was active in the Carrington community, and enjoyed working part-time at the Carrington Library during her retirement years.

Carol was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Carrington. She served on various church committees, and she was especially active in Trinity Lutheran Church Women and in supporting the growth of the library at the church.

She was an active and longstanding member of Dover Club and she loved the fellowship and activities of Literary Club and similar groups in Carrington.

Carol is survived by her children: Ann Montgomery of Flagstaff, Ariz.; Sue Montgomery of Mandan, N.D.; Lee of Fargo; Jennifer Montgomery (Frank Cummings) of Salisbury, N.H.; and Ron of Arthur, N.D.; one granddaughter and two great-grandsons.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Elaine (Mills) Hall, brothers Fritz Mills and Eldon Mills, and children Kay Montgomery, Richard Montgomery, Scott Montgomery and James Montgomery.
