Eric Jerome Hewitt, 50, passed away on March 13, 2020, at Golden Acres Manor in Carrington. The funeral service was held March 17, at the Federated Church UCC/UMC, Carrington. Burial was at the Carrington Cemetery. Rev. Rick Loewen officiated with special music provided by Scott Beumer and Clara Edwardson. Casket bearers were Andy Braaten, Kelly Hagel, Aaron Geiszler, Rick Christianson, Troy Lura and Jeff Galt. Honorary bearers included Eric's family and friends, the Class of 1988, former students and fellow umpires.
Eric was born Oct. 26, 1969, to Jeffrey and Sharon (Puterbaugh) Hewitt in New Rockford. He attended school in Carrington and graduated in 1988. He attended NDSU and transferred to VCSU to pursue a degree in elementary education and a minor in coaching. He taught in Carrington Public Schools as a seventh-grade science and geography teacher.
He was united in marriage to Brenda Rodacker in 1997, and they welcomed a son, Braxton, into their union. In 2004 he married Kristen Schumann, and they welcomed a daughter, Calleigh, to their family.
Eric served on the Carrington park board, the board of the Federated Church, and was a founding member of the baseball club.
He was a member of the 1988 state class B championship wrestling team, finishing fourth individually at 135 pounds. He was also a member of the 1986 state championship and 1987 runner-up American Legion baseball teams. He was the assistant coach of the state championship 1994 and 1995 CHS wrestling teams.
Eric is survived by his wife, Kristen; his children, Braxton and Calleigh; his mother, Sharon; his brothers: Kent (Cindy) Hewitt, Shawn (Donal) Hewitt, and Kyle (Kristy) Hewitt; 14 nieces and nephews; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents Leslie and Ethel Hewitt, Abram Puterbaugh, and George and Dorothy Semmens; and many aunts and uncles.
