Oberon Oracles: April 6, 2020

Since the social distancing circumstances have not changed much - except maybe get worse - everyone has been or should be staying home. So, this week I have asked people what they are doing to keep themselves occupied.

Lester Roberts reported that he is happily enjoying his confinement.

James Nelson is also having to stay in his room. Cards, letters or phone calls would be welcome.

Joel and Debbie Hjelseth of Tennessee spent a week at the Buehler farm earlier this month. During their stay, Breana and Michael Pacheco, Mavis and Whalen of Watford City, Elisa and Joe Wentz and Maynard of Bismarck and Beau, Bria and Brittin Buehler visited Todd and Hunter and the Hjelseth’s.

Nadley Buehler traveled to Grand Caymen earlier this month with her cousin to visit Bryan and Annette Wentz. While there, they toured the island, visited the local beaches and enjoyed local cuisine. Upon returning from her trip, Nadley had been using the 14-day quarantine to prepare assignments for her students and work on tasks at home indoors and out. Todd visits daily with friends and family on the phone or Facetime.

Doris Griffin has been quite busy during this time. She has started planting tomatoes, peppers, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and Brussel sprouts for trans-planting later. Since her chickens need to eat, she got a pickup load of chicken feed. She has painted cupboards and the entryway. She goes out and gets fresh air and exercise. She thinks spring is in the air- her geese are laying eggs. Doris has also been doing some wood carving, but the carving meetings will not meet until further notice.

During our phone visit, we discussed the games we used to play during recess in grade school. Some of the games mentioned were hopscotch, stealing sticks, kick the can, anti-I-over, jump rope and marbles. Doris had a cup full of marbles she had won. We also played softball and work-up. Does anyone remember the songs/ rhymes used for jump rope?

Linda Madson had coffee with Melodie Madson and our neighbor, Mr. Syl Brown on Melodie’s deck Sunday afternoon. We all maintained our 6-foot distance. Melodie’s puppy, Bruce didn’t do so well on the distancing, as I am sure I have big muddy paw prints on my back. He hasn’t seen me for a while so was excited to see me.

Johnny Grann is doing New Rockford-Sheyenne online classes from home. John, Donna, Ben, Brittany and Johnny Grann enjoyed walking the trails at Sully’s Hill on Sunday evening.
