Construction will resume along U.S. Hwy. 281 in New Rockford on Monday, May 4. According to Ethan Kitsch with the NDDOT, the goal is to have the project completed by the end of June, dependent on weather. The tentative plan is to rebuild one frontage road at a time. The west frontage road will be closed for rebuilding first, while the east frontage road remains open. Every other intersection to the highway will remain open during this time. Traffic speeds along the highway will be reduced.
As they widen the highway and then repave south of town to the junction of N.D. Hwy. 15, motorists should expect delays and follow the pilot cars. A new left-turn lane will be added for northbound traffic on Hwy. 281 turning onto N.D. Hwy 15, as well as turn lanes for traffic turning west from both directions onto 17th St NE, the road to the Gavilon elevator.
Motorists should observe all traffic signs and signals and use caution in the work area.
