North Dakota Sheriffs and Deputies Association, North Dakota Chiefs of Police Association and the North Dakota Highway Patrol will hold a Memorial Day parade to honor our state’s fallen officers and veterans.
The parade of law enforcement vehicles, EMS, fire and families of the fallen will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 25 at the state capitol. The parade route will begin on the north side of the capitol, passing by the Peace Officer Memorial, exiting the capitol grounds on State Street and continuing to Veterans Cemetery. A map of the route has been posted to our website, http://www.newrockfordtranscript.com.
All state, county, municipal, tribal, federal and railroad law enforcement agencies in North Dakota are invited and encouraged to participate, along with area EMS and fire departments.
In addition, survivors of fallen North Dakota Law Enforcement Officers are invited to participate. Civilian vehicles containing survivors will be escorted between two law enforcement vehicles near the front of the parade.
“The idea to have a parade came about while watching the very meaningful and moving National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Candlelight Vigil,” said McLean County Sheriff’s Sergeant Curt Olson. “I felt there was a way we, collectively as brothers and sisters in North Dakota Law Enforcement, could assemble a parade to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in serving and protecting our State and Nation.”
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic the traditional Peace Officer Memorial Ceremony at the Capitol Grounds was canceled.
The public is invited to attend along the parade route but they are encouraged to follow CDC guidelines by practicing social distancing and wearing masks.
