The NR-S Elementary held its annual year-end awards ceremony virtually Wednesday, which was posted to their Facebook page. Here are the highlights:
The Keep North Dakota Clean poster contest winners from each classroom in grades Pre-K to sixth grade received certificates and trees to plant courtesy of the Eddy County Soil Conservation District.
Pre-K: Halle Savageau and Kelsy Larson; Kindergarten: Brielle Dauenhauer and Livi Skogen; First grade: Dylan Cudworth; Second grade: Cade Helseth and Grace Tillman-Saucier; Third grade: Neecie Swart; Fourth grade: Koy Zieman; Fifth grade: Emmie Belquist; Sixth grade: Logan Cudworth.
Members of the NR-S Walking Club traveled 855.7 miles this past school year.That's nearly 2 million steps (1,925,496 to be exact!). Here's how the walkers did by grade: There were nine students in Pre-K who walked 101.6 miles. The 27 kindergartners trekked 292.8 miles. The first grade had 18 walkers who traveled 120 miles, while the 23 second graders logged 148 miles. The 51 students in grades 3 to 6 who participated walked a combined total of 175 miles.
Awards were given to the three students who walked the most individual steps, or miles. The kindergarten swept the top three. In first place was Benjamin Risovi, who walked 89,783 steps, or 40 miles! The Skogen twins, Jack and Livi, came in second and third place respectively. Jack walked 36.1 miles, while sister Livi logged 32.9 miles.
Band instructor Mrs. Hovey handed out awards for the students who logged the most practice minutes. Among the fifth grade students, Skye Kramlich took home top honors by practicing 1,435 minutes. Olivia Larson practiced 1,365 minutes and earned second place. Tristan Shrock was the winner among the sixth grade band, as he logged 1,168 practice minutes.
Music instructor Mrs. Klocke recognized three elementary choir members for achieving perfect attendance at choir rehearsals– Sophie Skogen, Kaylynn Chamberlain and Kaelyn Ystaas. Klocke also noted the fourth grade students who had achieved their Recorder Karate belts. Two players achieved black belt status: Jaida Schumacher and Sophie Skogen. Kaylynn Chamberlain earned her brown belt, while Megyn Bjerke and Jax Demester achieved purple belt status. Alex Knatterud earned his blue belt.
Ten scholarly sixth graders received the President's Award for Educational Excellence: Bailey Baumbach, Easton Benz, Logan Cudworth, Ava Peterson, Vinnie Ruppell, Jackson Schumacher, Alivia Yri, Donavun McCorkle and Alex Weisenburger. Students must have an "A" average to receive the award, which is mailed directly from the White House and signed by President Donald Trump and Education Secretary Betsy DeVos.
Pre-K instruction Lori Demester held a graduation ceremony for her students Wednesday via Zoom.
