Doris Griffin’s barnyard report for this week: No new little chicks, but several sitting/hatching. One goose is sitting on eggs in the same nest she used last year. It takes 28 days for guineas to hatch and several lay eggs in the same nest. There are lots of eggs and then two guineas sit side by side to cover that many eggs. If you had to sit for 28 days without eating or drinking or going anywhere, wouldn’t you want a friend too?
This year, one guinea hen started sitting but no friend sat with her until a bantam chicken decided to help her out. Those two sit side by side and have somehow divided the eggs between them so each has her own pile of eggs. It will be interesting to see how they share raising the chicks.
Such is the barn news for the week.
Thought to Remember: If you look like your passport photo, you in all probability need the journey.
