Black Sox Independent go 2 and 2 in league play

On Friday, June 19, the Black Sox traveled to Rolla and ended up dropping their first game of the season. The final score was 2-1 as Rolla’s home field advantage seemed to give me the edge over the Sox. Bo Belquist was the only player from SNR to score a run.

On Wednesday, June 24, the Black Sox took on Kidder County looking to get back to winning after Friday’s loss. As these two teams matched up it looked like it was going to be a battle. The first inning resulted in nothing but perfect defense from both teams with three perfect outs. In the second inning started to heat up as Kidder County made a run against the Sox’s stout defense before they could get their third out. The Sox then came back with two runs of their own by Colter Solderholm and Koby Duda. This would be the last time that the Sox score for the remainder of the game.

Kidder County went on to score one run in the third inning and tied the game at two runs.

It was the fourth inning when Kidder County began to pull away from the Sox with two runs to take the lead. The Sox fought hard in the fifth and sixth inning playing solid defense, keeping Kidder County from scoring any runs, but were unsuccessful in scoring runs themselves.

In the final inning, Kidder County was finally able to break down the Sox defense and score two additional runs turning it into a four-run deficit that the Sox had to overcome at the bottom of the seventh inning.

Great defense by Kidder ended any hopes of a rally, and the Sox ultimately fell short as they lost their second in a row 6-2.

In their exhibition game afterward, the Sox were able to get a little bit of revenge. They won 4-3 in five innings. The winning run was made by Koby Duda off an Alex Harrison ground ball. The exhibition record as of now stands at 3-3 while their league record diminished to 4-2.

The Black Sox got a bit of redemption Friday, June 26, as they bested Harvey. SNR weathered a push by Harvey in the fourth, allowing four runs, but the locals still pulled off the 8-6 win.

In the exhibition game, the Sox coasted to an easy victory over Harvey, 15-5.Colter Solderholm pitched the win for the Sox, allowing seven hits and five runs over four innings, striking out one.

The Sox headed to Cando on Monday, June 29. There, Alex Harrison led the Sox with four hits in six at bats. Harrison singled in the second, the fourth, and twice in the seventh.

The locals secured the victory by scoring 11 runs in the seventh off the two singles from Harrison and one from Nick Presnell, as well as walks by Duda and Solderholm and doubles by Belquist and Holzwarth.
