Archival Anecdotes: Small Town Traffic Control

For the most part, traffic remains pretty reasonable in New Rockford and surrounding areas. With not so much as a stoplight, motorists are able to navigate the roads and get to where they are going with minimal trouble.

It was just over a hundred years ago that New Rockford received its first traffic sign. It read, "Keep to the Right" and was installed in 1917.

In the photo above a group of young folks decided to pose near the sign at its location near St. John's Catholic Church. I am not certain what year it was taken, as that information was not provided to the museum, but perhaps with a little remembering, a reader will be able to fill in the gaps.

Included in the photo, from left to right, back row: Barbara Fahrer and Phyllis Benton; middle row: Nevella [?] Benton and Celesta Kellington; and front row: Gertrude Dresser and Marla [?] Walsh.
