NR-S went 1-1 in a pair of matches to begin the volleyball season on August 31 and Sept. 1, taking on Thompson and Medina/Pingree-Buchanan.
The Rockets had some tough sledding against the Tommies, falling in straight sets at home (11-25, 12-25, 14-25), but rebounded for a three-set win against the Thunder in Pingree, 25-18, 26-24 and 25-16.
Senior Kayahna Hopfauf was the leader in kills both nights, hitting down four against Thompson and 13 versus M-P-B. Chloe Heinz added eight kills in the M-P-B match Tuesday night, and freshman Kelsie Belquist added four more.
Also in the winning effort, Dani Bjerke had 25 assists, and Heinz and Cassie Longnecker both posted double digits in digs with 16 and 15.
Longnecker, along with Mya Cudworth, were the top diggers against Thompson with nine apiece.
The JV scores followed their varsity counterparts, with NR-S falling in two sets to Thompson, 14-25 and 19-25, but sweeping the Thunder, 25-12 and 25-19.
The Rocket C-squad went three sets against the Tommies Monday, falling in the first set 12-25, then rebounding to win the second 25-22 before losing the third 15-10. The C-Squad did not play in Pingree.
The junior high team traveled to Pingree Tuesday. The seventh grade team prevailed 2-0, posting impressive set scores of 25-8 and 25-10. The eighth graders also won 2-0, with set scores of 25-17 and 27-25.
