Oberon Oracles: Oct. 5, 2020

Grace Ihry of Valley City spent a few days last week visiting Hunter, Todd and Nadley Buehler.

Dave Kenner stopped by to visit Todd on Thursday.

Wednesday, Lester and Roger Roberts visited their cousin Arnold Johnson and his wife, Naomi near Bremen. The Johnsons will be heading back to Coco, Fla., soon for the winter months.

Thursday, Lester took Midge Quam, Helen Ridley and Rita Waldorn out to Whitehorse Hill to enjoy the fall colors. They saw some buffalo and elk on their drive.

Lester took in the Steam Threshers Reunion in New Rockford on Saturday. He reports that there was a big crowd in spite of the current situation.

Saturday evening, Lester, his daughter Lezlee Thorson, Kim Christianson and her friend, Phil, Coreen Johnson and her son, Justin and Justin’s girlfriend enjoyed supper at the Cove.

Randy and Charlotte and Mark Simon attended Jaxon Simon’s football game, New Rockford vs. Harvey Tuesday.

Charlotte enjoyed a sisters’ weekend at her sister, Lori Pedersen’s home in Fargo. Her other sisters attending were Valerie Heggeness, Linda Duchscher and JoClaire Halvorson.

Doris Griffin’s amazing guinea hens kept a fox from getting to the barn for lunch. About 10 of them were across the road and making a lot of noise. It was a stand-off until Doris came out to see what was happening and he ran off. The guineas also put up a noisy barrier on another occasion to keep the fox from getting into the barn. Doris again checked what was happening and he ran off.

Doris’ education lesson for this week: Birds cannot swallow so that is why they tip their heads back when they have a sip of water so the liquid can run down their throat. Also, birds have a special tendon in their legs that causes their toes to curl automatically when they sit so that they don’t fall off a branch.

Dave and Linda Madson spent the weekend at their camper. Carrie Prince and Melodie Madson brought treats for all to enjoy on Saturday afternoon. The weather was beautiful Friday and Saturday and the rain on Sunday was okay too. The sound of the rain on the roof was very relaxing and pleasant.

Jim Howard from Bismarck and Aaron Newcomb of Devils Lake were fall hunters and visitors at the John Grann residence on Thursday.

Words to Live By: Enjoy the little things. One day you may look back and realize they were the big things.
