Necessity is the mother of invention, as the saying goes. Because of their date with the HWC Hornets being postponed on two occasions, the NR-S Rockets were forced to come up with a different solution to ensure that all their Super Region 4 matches would be played.
So, the Rockets elected to play a rare two-team varsity-only doubleheader last Tuesday night in the NR-S Gym, facing the Hornets the same night as their scheduled match with Langdon/Edmore/Munich.
NR-S had a competitive first set with the region power Cardinals, losing by just 25-23, before L/E/M took the final two games by 25-7 and 25-16 scores.
Against HWC, the Rockets got their game back on track, taking a 25-22, 25-15 and 25-15 sweep.
Kayahna Hopfauf had 17 kills in the win and McKayla Waldo had seven. Cassie Longnecker finished with 22 digs, and Dani Bjerke had 25 assists.
In the loss to Langdon, Hopfauf also led the way with nine kills, and Longnecker had 21 digs.
The Rockets (7-5 overall) traveled to Binford to face Griggs/Midkota today (October 26), and will have a very busy week of regional obligations.
The non-conference match with the Titans is followed by Super Region matches with Rolla (October 29), Benson County (October 30), Four Winds-Minnewaukan (October 31) Nelson County (November 2) and North Star (November 3).
