Diabetes support for area residents has been reimagined with the launch of the Carrington Area Diabetes Support Facebook group.
Brooke Fredrickson, licensed registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist at CHI St. Alexius Health Carrington moderates the Carrington Area Diabetes Support Group on Facebook.
The format of the group includes weekly posts such as news articles about diabetes, exercise and eating tips, and updates on medications and technology. It is a place to receive accurate, evidence-based information and provide open discussion about living with diabetes.
The Facebook group is open to anyone who has diabetes, has a family member with diabetes, or who is interested in learning more about diabetes. To be admitted into the group, search for it on Facebook by typing in “Carrington Area Diabetes Support Group” and clicking on the join button.
Following years of traditional in-person diabetes support group meetings, the new format is based on survey feedback showing many people had scheduling conflicts preventing them from attending the in-person support group. Alternate suggestions from survey participants indicated they would like to receive diabetes support via email or online.
