Tips for celebrating Thanksgiving safely

Eddy County has 39 active COVID-19 cases as of Nov. 18, 2020. We are currently in the high-risk level, as are all the other counties in North Dakota.

Thanksgiving is coming up and here are a few tips on how to celebrate safely:

• Have a virtual Thanksgiving with family and friends.

• Wear a mask with two or more layers to stop the spread of COVID-19.

• Wear the mask over your nose and mouth and secure it under your chin.

• Make sure the mask fits snugly against the sides of your face.

• Stay at least 6 feet away from others who do not live with you.

• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

• Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.

• Bring your own food, drinks, plates, cups and utensils.

• Avoid having numerous people going in and out of the kitchen if the food is being prepared on site.

• Use single-use options, like salad dressing and condiment packets, and use disposable items like plates and utensils.

• Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces and items.

• Contact your guests ahead of the celebration and set expectations for celebrating together.

If you are going to be travelling for the holidays here are a couple of reminders:

• Check travel restrictions before you go.

• Get your flu shot before you travel.

• Always wear a mask in public settings and on public transportation.

• Stay at least 6 feet apart from anyone who is not in your household.

• Wash your hands often and/or use hand sanitizer.

• Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose, and mouth.

• Bring extra supplies, such as masks and hand sanitizer.
