Dakota Recreation Report: Nov. 23, 2020

Outdoor notes:

*Stay off any and all ice whether hunting or fishing because it’s generally unsafe yet.

*Nov. 27: Muzzleloader deer season opens.

*Nov. 29: Dove season closes.

*Nov. 30 & Dec. 1: N.D. Game & Fish Dept. virtual livestream advisory board public meetings. Email advance questions to [email protected]. Go to the department website, (gf.nd.gov) for more information.

Fishing:

*Devils Lake elevation, Nov. 17: 1,448.51 feet above mean sea level (MSL).

*Stump Lake elevation: 1,448.53 MSL.

*Lake Sakakawea elevation: 1,838.93 MSL; 13,200 cubic feet per second average (CFS) Garrison Dam daily releases.

*N.D. Game & Fish Dept. Dist. game wardens: No new reports from the Missouri River System, east-central area lakes, or Devils Lake.

*Devils Lake, Ed’s Bait Shop, Devils Lake: Little to no activity on Devils Lake with the lake having open water yet.

*Devils Lake, Woodland Resort, Devils Lake: Activity remains quiet with smaller lakes starting to ice-over but generally unsafe for access. Devils Lake remains open

*Foster County area lakes, Dry Dock, Carrington: Activity remains limited throughout area lakes.

*Jamestown Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Little activity on Jamestown Reservoir and area lakes.

*Lake Ashtabula, Ashtabula Crossing, Luverne: Activity quieted.

*Lake Ashtabula, Bayshore, Valley City: Look for some activity from shore along the crossings. Lake itself is quiet.

*Lake Sakakawea, Cenex Bait & Tackle, Garrison: No activity on the east end of Lake Sakakawea. Lake remains open with no ice yet.

*Lake Sakakawea/Lake Audubon/Missouri River, Scott’s Bait and Tackle, Pick City: Missouri River tailrace remains quiet with low water levels yet. No Lake Sakakawea reports.

*Lonetree WMA area lakes, Harvey: No activity throughout area lakes.

*Pipestem Reservoir, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: No new reports.

*Spiritwood Lake, Sooper Stop, Jamestown: Little activity.

Hunting:

*Deer: Generally fair success with rut likely peaking.

*Upland: Pheasant hunters continue seeing fair to good bird numbers with some partridge, as well.

*Waterfowl: Good numbers of geese along the Interstate-94 corridor between Jamestown and Valley City early in the week. Large numbers of waterfowl moved and moving out of east-central N.D. Some geese remain in limited numbers around the Devils Lake area but they’re generally moving out. Some diving ducks on the lake yet, however. Lots of Canada geese moving into areas along the east end of Lake Sakakawea with some snow geese still in the area. Nice mallard numbers on the east end, as well, in some areas. A few Canada geese around the midsection but no large numbers. Waterfowl largely moved out of north-central and Lonetree WMA areas with some still filtering through the northern tier, however. Some Canada geese remain on the Missouri River around the Williston area.
