Obituary: Denise Roerick

Denise Roerick, 56, Rugby, died Nov. 15, 2020 at her home.

Denise Renae Roerick was born on Oct. 14, 1964 in New Rockford, N.D. to Everett and Joyce (Christianson) Applegate. She was raised in New Rockford where she was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church, and later graduated from New Rockford High School in 1982.

Denise continued her education earning a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Moorhead State University in 1986, and Master's Degree in Social Work from University of North Dakota in 2011. She began her social work career at Lone Tree Special Education Unit in Harvey, N.D.

She served many more clients through the years with Darveaux-Eaton and Associates, Minot Air Force Base, and at North Central Human Services Center for over 14 years. She was most recently employed at Trinity Riverside in Minot as a licensed and certified Social Worker and Mental Health Therapy Counselor, where she cared deeply about her clients.

Denise married Robert Ivan Roerick on Aug. 6, 1988. Together they moved to Pierce County to raise their three children, Shelby, Mitchell and Tania in their beloved farmhouse. Denise thoroughly enjoyed keeping her family busy with the variety of pets she would bring into their home. Sunday's weren't the same without her cooking her special eggs for her pets.

Denise enjoyed exercising her creativity through her art talents. Anyone who visited her childhood home will remember her Snoopy mural. She held a true joy for cooking and trying adventurous foods, trips to the casino, making others laugh with her witty storytelling, and seeing the world via cruises with her friends and family. Her taste in music was just as cool as she was.

Denise is survived by her husband, Robert, and their children, Shelby Roerick (Silva), Mitchell Roerick (Cando), and Tania Roerick (Rugby). In addition, she leaves her sister, Cheryl, and her husband David Flick (Chaseley). She also leaves many loved nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her mother-in-law, Lyla Roerick, and father-in-law, Ed Roerick.

There will be visitation at the Niewoehner Funeral Home in Rugby on Friday, Nov. 20 from 4-7 p.m. Guests will be allowed to enter the funeral home in groups of four persons at a time. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 21. Guests are reminded that a mask or facial covering is required to enter and to maintain social distancing.
