Guthmiller back on the court; Rockets beat Raiders by 27

The Rockets took on the Drake-Anamoose Raiders on Monday, February 1 in the New Rockford-Sheyenne gym.

To start off the game, senior Cassie Longnecker drained six with teammate Dani Bjerke bringing in five. Bjerke held the top points for the Rockets with 17 total points. Longnecker came in second with 11 total points.

In the second quarter, Bjerke brought in nine points to bring the Rockets to a 20-point lead on the Raiders. The Rockets were on top of their game and ready for a win.

Third quarter, Bjerke drained her third three-pointer of the night to keep ahead of the Raiders by 23. The Raiders simply couldn't catch up.

During the fourth quarter, Longnecker brought in a three-pointer along with eighth grader, Kaiya O'Connor. With four minutes remaining on the clock, Coach Belquist took out all five starters to let some junior varsity girls get some playing time. With 2:10 left on the clock, Coach Belquist put senior Chloe Guthmiller in.

Guthmiller just recently started dressing and warming up with the girls team on Jan. 19 after her serious vehicle accident back in June. Guthmiller stated she was happy just to be able to dress and warm up with the team. But little did she know, on Feb. 1 she was going to be able to be on the court with the girls for the first time this season.

Once Coach Belquist put her in during the fourth quarter, the fans went wild. Her teammates, family and friends have been hoping Guthmiller would be able to play this year, even if it's for a short period of time. Guthmiller's teammates kept passing her the ball in hopes she would put up a shot. With 30 seconds left on the clock, a pass from Kennedy Demester and a screen from O'Connor, Guthmiller was able to put up a shot at the three-point line and add three points to the Rockets score. The gym echoed with cheers from fans and the varsity bench. Some fans even had tears of joy. With Guthmiller's three, the Rockets defeated the raiders 62-35.
