The Rockets headed to Rolette Thursday, Feb. 11 to take on the Comets and came home with a 66-50 victory.
Senior Evan Ulrich started off the game with two field goals and five free throws to bring the Rockets to a four-point lead on the Comets. Josh Belgarde of the Comets brought in a three-pointer and a field goal in the first quarter to attempt to keep up with the Rockets.
In the second quarter, the Rockets kept ahead of the Comets by seven. Ulrich brought in two more field goals and six free throws. Senior Johnny Grann brought in a three-pointer to start bringing in points for the Rockets. For the Comets, Kaleb Poitra brought in a three-pointer and a field goal. Montgomery Grant also put up a three-pointer along with a free throw.
After the third quarter, Ulrich began putting up three-pointers. He put up a total of two three-pointers, two field goals and two free throws. Grann brought in another three-pointer to keep a lead of eight points on the Comets.
Ulrich and Grann both put up eight points in the fourth quarter to outrun the Comets 66-50.
Ulrich led the Rockets with 39 total points. This is his second top game score coming in behind his 44 point game against Rolla back in December during the CNDC tournament. Also in double digits for the Rockets was Grann with 14 points. Nick Berglund wasn’t far behind with nine points.
On the other side of the score book, Grant held the most points with 11. Other top scorers for the Comets were Belgarde with nine, Nate Tostad with seven and Blake Mattson with 7.
The Comets junior varsity team beat the Rockets 49-36. Top scorers for the Rockets were Haydon Meier and DJ Mudgett both with 10 points. For the Comets, Belgarde had nine points, Kaleb Poitra had 8 points, and Grant had 7 points.
The Rockets finished second in the district and third in the region. The Rockets will begin District 7 tournaments in New Rockford starting on Friday, February 26.
