Pinochle players gather to remember Wick

The second annual Roger Wick Memorial Pinochle Tournament was graciously hosted at Buck-It's Bar on Friday, Feb. 19. Twenty-eight Pinochle players came out to escape the winter doldrums and play this trick-taking card game, enjoy some Midnight Munchies and indulge in libations. The mood was fun; the play was serious. Roger would have been proud.

Tim Allmaras and his partner Bob Collier won the first round with a 1,500 rope AND 300 pinochle in the same hand! Mandy Fandrich was second and Cherry Heinz third. First round winnings were donated to Eddy County Community Cares to continue work on suicide prevention and mental health awareness. After the first round was in the books, players had the opportunity to win some cash. Second round winners were Brent Helseth in first, Lisa Longnecker second and Boone Painter fifth.

This second annual tournament raised $1,358, with donations from players, Buck-It's Bar, Midnight Munchies and the Wick Family. Eddy County Community Cares encourages EVERYONE to brush up on their pinochle skills and join in on the fun next year!
