Minerva Irma Faul, 95, of Cathay, N.D. passed away on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 at the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, N.D. Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at the Nelson Funeral Home in Fessenden, N.D. with Rev. Keith Hurlbut officiating. Burial took place at the Germantown Baptist Cemetery, rural Cathay, N.D.
Minerva was born Sept. 20, 1925 in Valhalla Township, Wells County, N.D., the daughter of Melvin and Myrtle (Simonson) Bergrud. She grew up on the family farm north of Bremen and attended Blackhammer Country School.
She married Elmer Faul on Dec. 31, 1945 in Fessenden, N.D. They lived on the Faul family farm near Cathay all their married life. Minerva sold Avon in the area for over 30 years. She loved to bake and was very generous with her baked goods. She also enjoyed entertaining nursing home residents in Carrington, New Rockford, Harvey and Maddock for 20 years.
Minerva was a member of the Germantown Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Fessenden until they closed. She was currently a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Carrington. Minerva's Christian faith was a very important part of her life and she regularly attended church. She was also very active in the Republican Party.
She is survived by her brothers, Eddie (Jeanette) Bergrud, Grants Pass, Ore.; Dennis Bergrud, Sheyenne, N.D.; Larry (Julie) Bergrud, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Gerald (Kathy) Bergrud, Brighton, Colo., and sister, Norma Kolstad, Sheyenne; many nieces and nephews, foster children, Kelly Reule, Fargo, and Cindy Sorkness, West Fargo, special neighbors, Pam and Lewis Seibold, and Bud Retzlaff and his dog, Lonesome, all of Cathay.
Minerva was preceded in death by her parents, husband Elmer on Jan. 5, 2018, sisters Lorine Ystaas, Arlene Klocke and Violet Bergrud; brother Raymond Bergrud; brothers-in-law, Laverne Klocke, Don Kolstad and Norris Ystaas; sister-in-law, Bernice Bergrud, and foster son Gustav Reule.
