Black Sox sweep HWC Hornets at home

Sheyenne-New Rockford pitcher Alex Harrison didn't have to worry about his fielders working too hard behind him.

Fourteen strikeouts will do that, no question.

Harrison scattered three runs over six innings of work, and Evan Ulrich worked the final three outs for the save to give SNR their first varsity victory of the spring, a 6-3 triumph over the HWC Hornets in New Rockford on April 16.

The Hornet hurler, Tyson Tipton, was nearly up to the task in matching Harrison until the sixth inning, when the Black Sox broke a 3-3 tie game with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

In that turn at bat, Ulrich came around to score to give SNR the lead after singling to lead off the half inning, and Kaden Jensen also had a hit in the rally. The final two runs for the Sox came via a crucial Hornet error.

The Black Sox had five hits in the opener, all singles. Koven Walford added a pair of runs for SNR.

Logan Jenner had two of HWC's four hits, and additional singles came off the bat of Landen Monge and Tanner Grossman.

Tipton took the loss in the 99-pitch outing, while Harrison was efficient in throwing 110 pitches, 76 of those for strikes.

In the JV contest, SNR plated seven in the fourth inning to outdistance the Hornets, 10-4.

Johnny Grann threw the first two innings for the Black Sox, and picked up the win, while striking out six. Koby Duda followed with five punch outs in the following two innings, and DJ Mudgett finished the game off in "mop-up" duty.

Four HWC pitchers worked one inning each in the loss, which was taken by Owen McKinven.

Brody Weisenburger had two hits in two plate appearances for SNR. Connor Knatterud hit a double for the Sox, and Keaton Cudworth had the other hit in the nightcap.

For HWC, Brock Fike had a double, and other hits came from Jaxon Feist and Noah Ziegler.
