LaMoure/Litchville-Marion has taken the Region 3 universe by force early in the spring baseball season.
The Loboes boosted their overall record to a perfect 4-0 and 3-0 in the regional standings, with a 5-1 defeat of SNR at Jim Johnson Park Tuesday afternoon, April 20.
The bats for the Black Sox were cooled by a fine pitching performance from L-L-M sophomore Anthony Hanson, who sent seven SNR hitters down via strikeout. Three of those were caught looking for a 1-2-3 first inning, and the Sox were unable to muster offense on the tall right-hander.
SNR's only hitter to have sustained success against Hanson was Nick Berglund, who had hits in all three at-bats. The other Sox to manage singles in the loss were Kaden Jensen, who drove in the lone run for the home team in the fifth to score Caden Price, and Koby Duda.
Starter Evan Ulrich did well against the strong Lobo lineup for four innings, and L-L-M greeted reliever Berglund in the fifth, with the fateful four-run inning, to seal the win for the visiting team. Two straight walks to start the frame would haunt, as Connor Johnson got the game-winner with a two-run double, Corban Potts drove him home with a triple, and scored the final run on a passed ball. Tate Mart and Dalton Madcke had the other hits for the Loboes in game one.
The JV game showed that the younger LaMoure contingent will be a team to be reckoned with in the future as well, saddling the Sox with an 11-2 loss.
L-L-M scored runs in every inning but the third in the nightcap, and were paced by Cyle Warcken's 4-for-4 game, which included a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Dylan Carlson also crossed home three times while going 2-for-3, while Damian Carlson and James Sandness, the Loboes' only senior on the roster, each plated two tallies while earning hits.
The Sox went by their traditional pitching-by-committee approach in the JV contest, as Jensen started, followed by Koven Walford, Connor Knatterud and Lucas Yri. Haydon Meier accounted for two of the Black Sox' five hits, and Price had a double in the loss. Knatterud had a hit, stolen base, run and RBI, and Yri got a hit and steal. Colton Ness picked up the win for L-L-M in the second outing.
Following their home Jamboree this past weekend, SNR (1-3, 0-2 Region 3) will have a regional game this Tuesday when they face Midkota/Dakota Prairie/Lakota/Griggs Co. Central in New Rockford, with first pitch in the varsity game scheduled for 4 p.m.
