Local organizations received much-needed funds for their projects last week. The New Rockford Community Foundation Advisory Board met on June 8 to review applicants for its 2021 grant round.
Three recipients were chosen from among seven applicants, and each received $1,500 for their projects. New Rockford Area Betterment Corporation received funds to renovate the Wonder Lanes bowling alley. Funds going to the New Rockford Park District will be used to purchase new playground surfacing, and the New Rockford Eagles will use their grant funds to complete flooring updates at the club.
Each year, the Foundation's Advisory Committee reviews grant applications from a variety of nonprofit and community organizations. Over the years, the recipient organizations who received funding have included fitness and recreation, literacy, education, arts and mental health.
The fund's balance sits at just over $130,000. Guler said Wednesday that fundraising has been quiet over the past two years. Plans are underway to bring back a major event to raise funds for the foundation. In the past, they hosted a "Deal or No Deal" game and dinner, but this year they plan to start a new tradition. The New Rockford Community Foundation is a permanent endowment fund. All donations to the fund are pooled and invested, so that the fund grows over time. Only the interest is used to make grants on an annual basis. The North Dakota Community Foundation oversees the management of the endowment fund and helps the advisory committee raise additional funds every year.
